DETROIT, April 22 (UPI) -- Police in Detroit said an underwire bra may have saved the life of a woman who was shot by thieves who were breaking into the home of a neighbor.

Investigators said the burglars shot at Faustina Green, 57, after the woman spotted them breaking into the house of a 72-year-old neighbor who was not home at about 11 a.m. Tuesday, the Detroit Free Press reported Wednesday.

However, the bullet was deflected by the thin metal piece beneath the cup of Green's bra.

Police said jewelry was reported stolen from the neighbor's house. Officers said they are searching for three boys between the ages of 16 and 18 who left the scene in a four-door burgundy Dodge Neon with no hubcaps.
