TAMPA, Fla., April 1 (UPI) -- Police in Florida said a man with 11 previous auto theft convictions has been arrested and charged with stealing an unmarked FBI car from a mechanic's garage.

Investigators said Harold Scheidemann, 48, of Tampa, may wind up in jail on a 12th grand theft auto conviction after he allegedly swiped the government car Tuesday from the Century Buick Pontiac GMC dealership, the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times reported Wednesday.

Scheidemann denied stealing the car after police allegedly saw him exit the vehicle 10 hours after the car was taken.

"I'm just here to buy some crack cocaine," he allegedly told police.

In addition to the 11 grand theft auto convictions, Scheidemann has 15 previous convictions for theft and burglary and 19 convictions for other crimes, including one count of stealing an officer's weapon. He was taken to the Orient Road Jail.
