BELLEFONTAINE, Ohio, Feb. 12 (UPI) -- An Ohio school district said a teacher was arrested and charged with prostitution during an apparent sex sting while the instructor was off work for a sick day.

Superintendent Larry Anderson of the Bellefontaine City School District said Amber Carter, a 13-year employee of the district, took a half day of sick leave Tuesday and was arrested just after noon, shortly after she left the school, in the parking lot of a Super 8 Motel, the Columbus (Ohio) Dispatch reported Thursday.

Anderson said in addition to the third-degree misdemeanor prostitution charge, Carter was charged with a felony count of unauthorized use of property after she allegedly used her school computer to set up inappropriate meetings.

The superintendent said a guidance councilor and the principal of Western Intermediate School met with Carter's students Thursday to answer their questions about the absence of their teacher, who was put on administrative leave Wednesday night.

"It's just a bad situation," Anderson said. "It's not our place to tell them too much, but we figured the students might have heard rumors and would have some questions."

Logan County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Randy Dodds declined to provide further details of the case, the Dispatch reported.
