COOPERSVILLE , Mich., Dec. 9 (UPI) -- A West Michigan teacher and her young students said a large buck brought the day's lesson to a halt when it leaped into the classroom through a closed window.

Teacher Leslie Venlet said it was near the end of the day at Coopersville East Elementary School when the 6-point buck crashed into her 4th grade classroom, sending glass flying, WZZM-TV, Grand Rapids, Mich., reported Tuesday.

"There is this loud crash and I see glass flying," Venlet said. "And there was this deer standing there looking at me straight in the eye and I thought 'Oh my gosh.'"

Venlet said the animal was only in the classroom for a few seconds before jumping back out of the window, but the animal left 10-year-old Drake McKinley with a small cut on his head.

"It jumped over my desk and hit me right here," the student said while gesturing to his wound. "I touched it and saw blood on my hand."

Venlet said the buck left some souvenirs behind -- half of its antlers broke off during the incident.

"Should mount it on the wall," Drake McKinley said.
