DUSSELDORF , Germany, Sept. 15 (UPI) -- German prosecutors said a teenager will be tried for causing $142,500 in damage to a Dusseldorf arena by flooding the venue with beer.
The trial of the now 15-year-old, who allegedly flooded the LTU Arena in October 2006 by opening three beer taps in the VIP seating area, was scheduled to begin Monday, The Local reported.
LTU Arena representative Rainer Schuler said nearly 400 gallons of booze flowed through multiple layers of the stadium, including a conference room and the parking garage.
"The stench was overwhelming and it took a year before we were able to use the conference room again," Schuler said.
He said the then-13-year-old suspect and an accomplice who was not charged because he was under the age of criminal responsibility were identified from security tapes.
The teenager is being tried on charges of property damage and breaking and entering.
