EAST WINDSOR, Conn., Sept. 1 (UPI) -- Emergency crews in East Windsor, Conn., said they used a pulley system to rescue two people who had crashed their small plane into a group of trees.

Chief James Burton of the Warehouse Point Fire Department said crews brought pilot August Gorreck and his passenger, Susan Williams, down from their perch 50 feet in the air just before 1 p.m. Sunday, WFSB-TV, Rocky Hill, Conn., reported Monday.

"We strung some ropes through the trees with the stokes basket, they call it," Burton said. "We were able to lower the patients down to the ground and get them out of harm's way."

However, the 1930s-era Tiger Moth plane -- which left the Skylark Airpark in Warehouse Point, Conn., at about 9:45 a.m. Sunday -- remained lodged in the trees Sunday evening. Skylark Airpark manager Michael Koczera said officials plan to use a crane to bring the plane to the ground Tuesday.

Gorreck and Williams both walked away from the incident uninjured.

The pilot said he steered the plane toward the trees after the vehicle lost power shortly after takeoff.
