LONDON, Aug. 22 (UPI) -- A British supermarket chain has pulled a book geared toward children from its shelves while the publisher removes a word some complained was offensive.

Asda said it pulled all copies of Jacqueline Wilson's "My Sister Jodie" after a mother complained that it contained a word similar to the harmless "twit" but containing another vowel to make it a lewd reference to the female anatomy, The Times of London reported Friday.

Publisher Random House told The Times it is removing the word from new copies of the book because Wilson said she was unaware of the word's meaning when she included it in the children's novel.

"The publisher is aware of the word that is featured in the book and has agreed that it's not appropriate for children and will be reprinting copies. As soon as these copies are available we will stock them in our stores," an Asda spokeswoman said.
