'World's Ugliest Dog' wins $1,600

PETALUMA, Calif., June 22 (UPI) -- A dog that's missing a leg, eye and its fur was awarded $1,600 for winning the title of "World's Ugliest Dog" at a fair in California, contest officials said.

Gus, a Chinese-Crested, won the title at a contest Friday at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, Calif., Bay City News Service reported Saturday.

Gus was up against 11 other dogs from throughout the United States, the report said.

The homely pup was given two trophies along with his award money, which his masters plan to use for radiation treatments.

Gus is fighting skin cancer, which caused him to lose a leg, the news service said said.

Fair officials said Gus lost his eye during a scuffle with a tomcat.
