Wal-Mart worker suspended for pepper spray

VALLEY STREAM, N.Y., March 24 (UPI) -- A Valley Stream, N.Y., Wal-Mart employee was suspended after he and another employee allegedly caused illnesses by discharging pepper spray.

A company spokeswoman said store managers and security personnel at the Wal-Mart are investigating the incident, which involved two employees who allegedly discharged pepper spray at one another, causing 16 customers to become ill, New York's Newsday reported Monday.

"We are sorry for the customers and we regret that this happened," said Wal-Mart spokeswoman Amy Wyatt. "We are still looking into what happened. Once the investigation is over we will take appropriate action."

The store said the second employee hasn't been suspended. The names of those involved haven't been released.
