NEW YORK, Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Savannah, Ga., rescinded its invitation to New York firefighters for its St. Patrick's Day Parade because of past bad behavior, including holiday boozing.

In recent years, about 150 firefighters from the Big Apple have made the trip south. This year, only the department's pipe-and-drum band will be in the Savannah parade, The New York Daily News reported.

While the firefighters, national heroes since the destruction of the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001, have been stars in the parade, Savannah officials say firefighters have become known for New Orleans-style bead tossing, drinking during the parade and swearing at parade officials.

John Forbes, the parade chairman, described them as "out of control."

The Savannah parade is scheduled for March 14, three days before St. Patrick's Day and the massive march up Fifth Avenue in New York.
