UNITED NATIONS, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- The United Nations finally has a certified copy of its charter -- signed by the organization's original 51 members -- at its New York headquarters.

The certified copy was delivered to U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon by Allan Weinstein, head of the U.S. National Archives, U.N. spokeswoman Michele Montas said in a news release.

Ban asked Weinstein for a certified copy when he saw the original document signed June 26, 1945, at the National Archives, the designated custodian.

"Each of the 51 signatories has a certified copy," Montas said. "The organization itself now has one."
