TOLEDO, Ohio, Dec. 12 (UPI) -- A golden Labrador belonging to the mayor of Toledo, Ohio, will be able legally to spend most of its time inside city hall, but only on a leash.

Ohio Building Authority Executive Director Mark Gibson said Mayor Carty Finkbeiner's dog, Scout, can hang out at city hall as long as it remains on a leash, The Toledo (Ohio) Blade reported Wednesday.

Scout had been spending quite a bit of time on the official city grounds prior to Gibson's ruling, but now the animal will serve as the official office pet.

Government Center manager Michael Sullivan wanted the dog gone, citing regulations that forbid employees from taking their pets into state-owned buildings.

The Blade said the dog -- which reportedly is loved by many city hall employees -- may only visit areas of city hall considered common sites or those currently leased by the City of Toledo.
