Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe SMYRNA, Tenn., Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Police in Smyrna, Tenn., are using a life-size plastic cutout of a scowling cop with a radar gun to deter speeders. The corrugated plastic cutout, modeled after Sgt. Andy Miller, is posted in high-traffic areas to catch the eyes of paranoid motorists, The Nashville Tennessean reported Monday. Advertisement "It's meant to get people to think about it and slow down. It's actually worked," said the real Miller, who heads Smyrna's traffic enforcement division. Miller said the cutout is frequently displayed on Front Street, a pedestrian-heavy road with a speed limit of 15. He said motorists often drive between 25 and 60 on the street. "We come over here on a regular basis and run radar, but we can't be everywhere all the time," Miller said. "With this, we can be." The cutout was created and donated by Front Street sign maker Jim Gammon. "It's iffy whether you can get across the intersection sometimes" because of speeding traffic, Gammon said.
