MIAMI GARDENS, Fla., Aug. 14 (UPI) -- Police in Miami Gardens, Fla., said a man attempting to rob a security guard outside a store accidentally shot his accomplice in the eye.

Miami-Dade County police said the armed robber demanded that Corey Tully, a security guard who was riding a golf cart through the parking lot of BrandsMart USA, hand over some cash but the guard refused, the Miami Herald reported Tuesday.

"I was just doing my normal rounds when two male suspects told me to get on the ground. They pointed a gun at me," Tully said.

In the course of Tully's struggle with the men, the handgun went off and struck the second robber in the eye, the Herald report said.

"The security guard managed to disengage from that and break free and was able to flee from this area," Miami-Dade police spokesman Robert Williams said.

The two attempted robbers and three other men fled the scene but soon appeared at Jackson Memorial Hospital to seek treatment for the wounded man, who was listed in critical condition. The other suspect and three other men were arrested.
