The piano, made in 1932 by the forerunner of music instrument maker Yamaha, was in the home of its owner, about 1.2 miles from Ground Zero in 1945, the Mainichi Daily News reported. Advertisement The instrument remained standing after the bombing but was damaged by broken glass. Only in July 2005 did the 79-year-old owner of the piano learn that Mitsunori Yagawa could repair old pianos, the report said. Yagawa, who at 55 was not born at the time of the Hiroshima bombing, went to work and repaired the damaged piano keyboard. Since fixing it, Yagawa has organized concerts using the piano in some 120 locations across Japan, the report said. "I think the piano is a treasure for us to show the importance of peace," he was quoted as saying.
