AUCKLAND, New Zealand, May 21 (UPI) -- It might have taken 18 months but the New Zealand city of Palmerston North has struck back for an insult from British comic John Cleese.

The city's residents incurred the wrath of Cleese in 2005 after he had spent a "thoroughly bloody miserable time" on tour there.

"If you wish to kill yourself but lack the courage, I think a visit to Palmerston North will do the trick," Cleese said.

The New Zealand Herald reported Monday that a huge sign recently appeared on the city's rubbish dump reading "Mount Cleese."

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the sign, the newspaper said.
