ATLANTIC CITY, N.J., Feb. 5 (UPI) -- A woman playing slots at an Atlantic City, N.J., casino gave birth to a baby boy on the casino floor after mistaking her labor pains for gas pains.

Nyree Thompson said she made multiple trips to the bathroom before telling a security guard Resorts Atlantic City Saturday she thought she might be giving birth, the Atlantic City (N.J.)Press reported.

However, she said the guard thought she was joking and officers paid her no mind until her water broke.

"A guard came over and said, 'Don't push,'" Thompson said. "I said, 'Forget you, this baby is coming right now.'"

Security guards wrapped the baby boy, named Qualeem, in a jacket and tended to the newborn and his mother until paramedics arrived. Qualeem, who was one month premature and weighed less than five pounds, was doing fine after being taken to the hospital, his mother said.

Casino officials said the birth was an unprecedented event.

"We've had people die here, but we've never had people born here," said Steve Callender, vice president of operations at Resorts.
