LOS ANGELES, Feb. 3 (UPI) -- An actor costumed as Chewbacca from "Star Wars" has been charged with using force -- not "the force," but illegal force -- against a tour guide in Hollywood.

Frederick Evan Young of Los Angeles allegedly head-butted the victim Thursday in front of the landmark Grauman's Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, the Los Angeles Times reported. He was released on $20,000 bail.

Police had been trying to crack down on performers dressed up as movie characters, following complaints from tourists. Some visitors complained of being harassed when they refused to pay to have photographs taken with the character impersonators.

Young allegedly got into an argument Thursday with a guide for Star Line Tours who suggested he was violating the law.

Lt. Paul Vernon said the performers can ask for donations but cannot demand money or set prices for posing for photos.

"The lesson here is you can have the force with you," Vernon said. "You just can't use illegal force."
