NEW YORK, Jan. 5 (UPI) -- Two auto mechanics are New York City's latest heroes after catching a 3-year-old boy who fell from a fire escape five stories above street level.

Three-year-old Timothy Addo sneaked onto the fire escape while his babysitter had stepped away to use the bathroom, the New York Daily News reported Friday. Timothy stumbled on the fire escape and was dangling precariously when Julio Gonzalez and Pedro Nevarez spotted him, heard his cries and ran over to make the life-saving grab.

The boy was taken to a hospital and treated for a gash on his forehead sustained while falling through tree branches but apparently had no other injuries, the New York Post reported.

"I feel like we did something good today," Nevarez told Newsday. "We were in the right place at the right time."

Babysitter Carol Baldwin, 49, had reportedly opened the window to smoke a cigarette before leaving Timothy unattended. Police questioned Baldwin but a source told the Post it is unlikely she will be charged with a crime.
