MANLIUS, N.Y., Dec. 17 (UPI) -- Students can bump in volleyball or grind in woodworking classes, but not at prom, as U.S. principals ban risque moves at school-sponsored dances.

The principal at Fayetteville-Manlius High School in a Syracuse, N.Y., suburb canceled one dance and banned what he called pornographic dance styles.

"If you watch this stuff, you end up seeing girls playing out, or being forced to play out, sexually submissive roles," Principal James Chupaila told The New York Times.

Principals in U.S. high schools said dancing today just isn't the same.

"People compare it to the fox trot. They compare it to Elvis Presley. Uh, that was a little different," said Charles Salter, principal at a California high school, who ended a dance early and canceled others until he could be assured that students would not be simulating sex on the dance floor.

Students said the bans will only produce the opposite result.

"If you tell a kid to do something, they do what they want to anyway and probably do it 10 times more," said a 16-year-old female student.
