Pot-spiked meatballs sideline NYPD cop

NEW YORK, Nov. 4 (UPI) -- A New York anti-terrorism detective was unceremoniously booted from the force after his wife spiked his meatballs with pot so he would fail a drug test.

Anthony Chiofalo, 48, was automatically suspended from the NYPD more than a year ago after marijuana metabolites showed up in a drug test.

His wife, Catherine, stepped up and admitted that she had purposefully manipulated the outcome of his tests with her Italian cooking -- substituting marijuana for oregano -- because she was afraid he would "die in the line of duty," and wanted him to retire after 22 years on the job, sources told the New York Post.

The detective's younger brother, Nicholas, a New York firefighter, was killed on Sept. 11, 2001.

The New York Post reported Saturday, however, that he could be reinstated to the anti-terrorism squad if Police Commissioner Ray Kelly seconds an administrative judge's recommendation that he return to duty.

"This hasn't been any fun," Chiofalo lamented to the Post Friday as he cooled his heels at his Long Island home.
