More children in U.S. Republican districts

WASHINGTON, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- A statistical study of U.S. House Representatives and their districts by USA Today shows more children are represented by Republicans than Democrats.

Using 2005 Census Bureau data, the study found Republican Congress members represent 39.2 million children under the age of 18, about 7 million more than Democrats, and also average 7,000 more children per district.

As evidence, the newspaper pointed out while House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi has fewer children in her district than any other member of Congress with 87,727, Rep. Chris Cannon, R-Utah, has the most, with 278,398.

In a show of evolving modern families, however, children living with stay-at-home mothers was 29 percent of either Republican or Democratic districts, the paper said.
