NEW YORK, Sept. 22 (UPI) -- A New York man claims he is owed a share in the estate of John F. Kennedy Jr., who died when his small plane crashed in 1999.

Kennedy's wife and her sister were also killed in the crash. He left most of his estate to his sister, Caroline Schlossberg, with bequests to godchildren, cousins and his assistant. The estate also settled a wrongful death claim with the family of his wife and her sister.

In court papers filed in Manhattan Surrogates Court, Brian Land says he has multiple ties with Kennedy, including being Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis's godson, the New York Daily News reported. He describes himself as an "aire" to Kennedy's estate.

"I never had any knowledge of me being the aire to such a large estate," Land said.
