LONDON, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- A library book has been returned more than 40 years after it was checked out from a library in central London.

Britain's Life Styles Extra Web site says the book, "Nostromo" by Joseph Conrad, was mailed to Westminster Council's Paddington Library by someone in Kent.

The book, which was checked out from Little Portland in central London, was due back on Aug. 8, 1966. The library closed down about 20 years ago, the Web site said.

Westminster Council said the maximum fine for the late return of books is $9.50. Without the upper limit, the fine would have been $3,404, the Web site said.
