CHELTENHAM, England, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- A squirrel ransacked part of a family's home in Cheltenham, England, after it fell down a chimney and couldn't get out, the family said Wednesday.
Alan White, 67, and his wife Janice, 65, first thought they had been burglarized when they walked into their den -- until they saw sooty paw prints all over the room.
"There were potted plants and ornaments strewn across the room," White told the Sun.
The desperate squirrel tried to get out by chewing through the window frames, White said. It also tore the curtains and a couch near the window and gnawed a hole in the carpet.
It even tried to chew its way through the aluminum frame of the den's patio doors.
The couple's son found the squirrel's body behind the couch.
The Whites say they plan to get a chimney cowl to prevent this from happening again.
