NORMAN, Okla., Feb. 14 (UPI) -- The University of Oklahoma's student newspaper gambled by attaching a free condom to this week's issue on safe sex, but hasn't heard a peep.

Before Monday's issue went out, students at The Oklahoma Daily spent two hours hand-taping about 10,000 condoms to the cover for National Condom Week, The Oklahoman reported.

Managing Editor Tres Savage said he expected an uproar, but the phones and e-mail channels at the student newspaper were quiet.

The paper's opinion page contained an editorial about safe sex that said "if people are going to do the 'dirty,' they should do it as cleanly as possible." The page also had a point-counterpoint on condom dispensers on campus.

"It's not about the condom," Savage said. "It's about the story, and we were extremely pleased with how it turned out. There is a lot of valuable information in there."
