BUFFALO, N.Y., Dec. 17 (UPI) -- Some who received the Christmas card from the Roman Catholic Diocese of Buffalo, N.Y., wondered if another round had been fired in the "war on Christmas."

The Christmas card does not mention Christmas, but features an angel playing a violin with the message "Love, Peace, Hope."

Inside, the card says, "Wishing you a Beautiful Holiday Season and a New Year of Peace and Happiness," reported the Buffalo News Saturday.

Some contend that "Merry Christmas" is being replaced by "Happy Holidays" in greetings cards and public displays and therefore the reason for the season -- birth of baby Jesus -- is being forgotten.

However, Kevin Keenan, who heads the office of communications for the Catholic Diocese of Buffalo, says he chose the card from a local vendor because of its message of peace and that he wasn't avoiding the term Christmas or trying to be politically correct, the News said.

Keenan says he chose the card in September.
