MADRID, Nov. 28 (UPI) -- Spain is ditching its traditional benchmarks for calculating inflation and replacing them with more contemporary markers: plastic surgery and condom costs.

The traditionally religious nation will no longer use beef and milk prices to measure inflation rates starting next year, El Mundo reported online Monday.

In recent years, Spain has become a leader in plastic surgery, attracting facelift seekers from all over Europe and beyond. It also has one of the continent's lowest birth rates, averaging about one child per household.
