NEW YORK, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- A video game set to hit the stores soon allows players to try out being a New York cop and one without all those tiresome real-world restrictions.

"True Crime: New York" is a spinoff from "True Crime: Los Angeles."

Bill Clark, a former New York detective who serves as an advisor to "NYPD Blue," told the New York Post that Detective Marcus Reed, the protagonist of "True Crime" is every police officer's dream.

"He doesn't need warrants to burst into buildings, search cars, or people," Clark said. "He doesn't have to deal with politics or property damage or paperwork."

Producer Brian Clarke said players can choose to play by any set of rules they want.

"Do I turn this evidence in to the precinct and get it off of the street, or do I sell it on the black market and pocket the money? Do I stick with police-issue firearms or buy illegal weaponry to get an edge on the bad guys? Do I arrest a perp and let the system take care of him, or do I take him out myself and enforce justice on the street?"
