NEW YORK, May 4 (UPI) -- The former head of American International Group Inc. is threatening to sue over access to family heirlooms and underwear left in his old office.

Maurice Greenberg, who was forced out in March, sent a truck to AIG last week to get a Remington sculpture, a 19th-century George III desk, Chinese vases and a Van Gogh painting called "The Little Stream," valued at $6 million and other items including his underwear.

But -- without explaining their interest in Greenberg's underwear -- AIG lawyers blocked the move, prompting Greenberg to threaten litigation, the Wall Street Journal reported Wednesday.

Specifically, Greenberg wants the return of all his files, mementos and antiques, including letters his mother sent him during wartime service; photos taken when he was awarded the Bronze Star; cards from heads of state including the first President Bush; a pet bird's health records; monogrammed bath towels; Water Pik -- and his skivvies.
