Japan ministers shed jackets for energy

TOKYO, May 1 (UPI) -- Japan's Cabinet ministers have said they will not wear neckties and jackets from June to September to save energy in government offices.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Hiroyuki Hosoda said the ministers would not wear neckties during Cabinet meetings and regular press conferences to conserve air conditioning energy, Mainichi Daily News reported.

Ministers reportedly plan to ask Diet politicians to follow suit with the lack of suits.
