Woman claims jet dumped fuel onto her

TAMPA, Fla., March 23 (UPI) -- A Tampa, Fla., woman claims an airplane dumped fuel over her neighborhood, drenching her as she walked near her home, the Tampa Tribune reported.

Vicki Morris said the jet fuel rained down on her as she walked her dog Monday evening.

"It was kind of like a whoosh, and then the mist," she said.

Morris said the mist smelled like kerosene; an odor consistent with jet fuel, the Tribune said. Jim Morris, retired from the Air Force, said he knows what jet fuel smells like, and the substance that covered his wife was definitely that.

She said her skin burned and she had trouble breathing for hours, even after showering.

However, Tampa International Airport spokeswoman Brenda Geoghagan said there was no emergency at the airport Monday night, at least none that would force a jet to dump its fuel over a neighborhood.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen agreed. "There was no emergency declared and no authorized dumping of fuel under 12,000 feet" anywhere near Tampa International Airport, she said.
