MIAMI, Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Tom Miller admits it's a little awkward, but he is advertising for a female sailing companion with banners on his 41-foot boat anchored off Miami.

The banners on each side of the vessel get to the point saying "Lady Sailing Companion Wanted" and then listing a telephone number, The Miami Herald reported Wednesday.

Miller uses his sailboat to ply the nation's Atlantic Coast. It's 41-feet long with a towering mast, teak decks, power turbines and a satellite dish for Direct TV.

"Most people laugh at them," Miller, 59, said of his banners. "But I figure I've got nothing to lose. All it takes is for the right lady to see it."

Miller, who has been married and divorced twice, paid a sign maker in Connecticut $150 in 2003 and has displayed the banners periodically ever since.

"A lot of people will look at it and think it's disgusting that I would advertise like that," he said. "But at the same time, they'll answer an ad in a personal column."
