INDIANAPOLIS, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- An elephant at the Indianapolis Zoo is pregnant and there's a 50-50 chance the father is a pachyderm owned by pop icon Michael Jackson.

Jackson tried to breed his bull elephant, Ali, at his Neverland Ranch in southern California before giving him away in 1997.

Sperm from Ali, who now resides at the zoo in Jacksonville, Fla., and from another elephant was used to artificially inseminate Ivory, who lives at the Indianapolis Zoo. The other bull is at the Pittsburgh Zoo.

Just who the father is won't be known until blood tests are taken after Ivory delivers her calf in September 2006, following a 22-month gestation period. Zoo officials last week used ultrasound to confirm 23-year-old Ivory is pregnant with her second calf.

"You really can't tell (an elephant) is pregnant just by looking," said Indianapolis Zoo spokeswoman Judy Gagen. "You have a 200- to 250-pound (baby) inside a 6,000- to 7,000-pound elephant. It's difficult."
