Dad charged for letting son, 10, drive

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Feb. 3 (UPI) -- A Michigan man could face jail time for letting his 10-year-old son drive a car that hit a police cruiser as the father followed in a second vehicle.

Lance Tyms, 43, apparently thought he could save time by having his fifth grade son drive the family's second car home from a Grand Rapids hospital where the boy's mother had been admitted.

All was going well until the youth sideswiped a police cruiser.

Tyms pleaded guilty Wednesday to the Jan. 21 charge, and will be sentenced next month. He could be given up to 90 days in jail, the Grand Rapids Press said.

The boy, who was not injured, was not charged.
