Tortoise born with two heads

DORCHESTER, England, Nov. 12 (UPI) -- A longtime tortoise-owner in Great Britain has a unique pet, a young two-headed tortoise he has named Solomon and Sheba.

John Jones of Dorchester in the county of Dorset told the Sun newspaper the double-headed animal is unlike anything else he has seen in 55 years of raising tortoises.

The tortoise appears to have two brains, since the heads sometimes try to go in different directions and sometimes pick at the same lettuce leaf. He has given it a double-barreled name for that reason and says he is unsure if the tortoise is male or female.

The tortoise was born two months ago, last of a clutch of 14 eggs to hatch.

The Mediterranean spur-thighed tortoise is the turtle equivalent of conjoined twins.
