SAN DIEGO, Nov. 12 (UPI) -- One of the more unique attempts to sneak into the United States fizzled this month when border agents found a small child sealed inside a piñata.

Customs agents at the Tecate, Calif., border crossing were checking a carload of piñatas being brought across the border when they discovered a 4-year-old girl hidden inside one of them, the San Diego Union-Tribune.

The youngster was apparently able to breath through the piñata and was in good physical condition when she and her mother and brother were voluntarily deported.

Agents checked the piñatas because they are sometime used to conceal drugs and noticed one was heavier than the others.

The newspaper said the piñata was added to the list of unusual hiding places for illegal immigrants, who in the recent past have been found inside washing machines and sealed inside gas tanks and dashboards.

Such hiding places are an alternative to hiking across the border through the desert.
