NARA, Japan, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- Japan's Patent Office has turned back a pachinko pinball machine company's effort to make games based on Hitler, Moses and Confucius.

The three were among 35 patent names submitted on a list by an unidentified company and rejected, the Kyodo news agency reported. Also rejected were Thomas Edison, Prince Shotoku and Chinese Emperor Shi Huangdi.

Yasuhiko Oshimoto of the Japan Trademark Association said a game based on Hitler could be taken as implicit praise of the dictator and spark protests.

A provision in Japan's Trademark Law bans approval of a trademark that might be considered to harm public order and morals, Kyodo said.

The pinball manufacturer said it wanted the trademark registration to get an edge over competitors.
