SILVERDALE, Wash., July 1 (UPI) -- Police in Silverdale, Wash., are looking for vandals who "barbecued" a 25-foot rubber duck that was promoting an annual charity event.

Firemen called the scene quickly put out the flames, with damage limited to burned grass and "one melted duck," city spokeswoman Linsay Ingram told the Tacoma Tribune.

The duck was promoting the 11th annual Great Kitsap Duck Race on July 26. Participants pay $5 apiece to race rubber ducks in a floating gaggle on Dyes Inlet. The Rotary Club of Silverdale sponsors the event and donates the proceeds to charitable causes.

Club president Bob Cathcart said the fire was unfortunate, but noted the club still has two spare ducks of the same size that are "still alive and well and very much uncooked."
