Top baby names for 2003

WASHINGTON, May 7 (UPI) -- To mark Mother's Day, Social Security Commissioner Jo Anne Barnhart announced the top baby names in the United States for 2003.

"Each year, Social Security produces the most popular baby names list based on all Social Security card applications for children born the previous year," said Barnhart. "Emily and Jacob are again the top baby names for 2003."

Emily has been No. 1 on the girls' list since 1996, and Jacob has been the top boys name since 1999. Anthony and Elizabeth are new to the top 10 this year.

The top 10 boys names are: Jacob, Michael, Joshua, Matthew, Andrew, Joseph, Ethan, Daniel, Christopher and Anthony.

The top 10 girls names are: Emily, Emma, Madison, Hannah, Olivia, Abigail, Alexis, Ashley, Elizabeth and Samantha.
