BANBURY, England, March 23 (UPI) -- Patricia Amos, of Banbury, England, was sentenced Tuesday to 28 days in prison for allowing her 14-year-old daughter to skip school.

Prosecutors said the case reflects not only failing to have Amos's 14-year-old Jacqueline attend school, but the mother having condoned the absence, the BBC reported.

"It should be noted that the offence in this case relates not simply to having failed to secure a pupil's attendance but of having condoned the absence," said Paul Smith, spokesman for Oxfordshire County Council.

The school district said that out of 160 occasions when Jacqueline should have been at school, she was present only 98 -- and her mother was complicit in her absence 52 times.

This was Amos' second conviction, she was sentenced in 2002 to 60 days for her then 15-year-old daughter Emma's truancy.
