JOLIET, Ill., Feb. 13 (UPI) -- A promotion by a McDonald's restaurant may have hit a road bump as one Illinois family said a toy inside a Happy Meal ignited while still in its wrapper.

And that bump may turn into a roadblock if the family declines to give McDonald's the damaged toy, the Joliet, Ill., Herald reported Friday.

Last Monday, Sheryl and Peter Pagit and their children said they had a lunch of McDonald's food.

After cleaning up, they said they started to smell something burning.

They said they found the smell emanated from a Simba plastic toy with a roaring mechanism. The toy from the "Lion King 1 1/2" movie promotional series was found still sealed in its bag, they said.

The toy had been included in the Happy Meal and smoldered and melted for no apparent reason, they said.

"This could have burned down my house," Sheryl said Wednesday.

On Thursday, McDonald's spokesman Bill Whitman said the delay in responding to Sheryl's call was due to a computer coding error.

However, after discussions with McDonald's safety personnel Thursday, Sheryl wasn't sure whether she will hand the toy over.

McDonald's was planning to pick up the toy from her house next Monday, she said.
