Two more space tourists could reach orbit

MOSCOW, Dec. 17 (UPI) -- The Russian Space Agency has confirmed giving a U.S. company authority to search for two Americans to become space tourists on upcoming Russian space flights.

A spokesman for the space agency told the Novosti news service Wednesday the firm, American Space Adventures, "is empowered on a commercial footing to seek ... likely candidates" to launch aboard a Soyus spacecraft for week-long tourist flights on the International Space Station.

The first space tourist was Dennis Tito, who paid Russia $20 million for his flight to the International Space Station in 2001.

Officials say of the many people dreaming of a week-long space trip, requirements include not only fat wallets and good health, but also good research projects.
