WINNIPEG, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Canadian investigators spent the weekend trying to determine how a disc jockey became entombed between the walls of a Winnipeg nightclub.

Eduardo Sanchez, 21, who performed as DJ Phonosys and Grandmasta Sanchez, had been missing since October of 2002, the National Post reported.

Last week, however, police found his mummified body entombed behind an old wall and a new wall in the basement of the Village Cabaret.

Police were summoned to the popular nightclub after neighbors in the trendy downtown neighborhood began complaining of a foul smell, the National Post said.

If not for a recent citywide ban on smoking in bars, they might never have found the body, police said.

Foul play is not suspected, but investigators said they were baffled why Sanchez wriggled into the narrow passageway. They may never know, one investigator said.

No unusual items were recovered with the body, which was retrieved on Thursday, police said.
