LONDON, Nov. 19 (UPI) -- A young British woman says she thought her boyfriend's interest in vampires was only a hobby but knows better now, the London Sun reported Wednesday.
Rebecca Roberts, 23, said Matthew Barratt fell for a blood-worshipping woman behind an Ohio-based cult after meeting the woman on the Internet.
Roberts said he began shaving all his body hair, dressing in black and using Roberts' lipstick to redden his eyes. She also said she caught him performing blood rituals in front of his computer at night, cutting himself to prove commitment.
"I thought it was just a hobby," she said. "I was pleased he'd found an interest."
Matthew, 27, finally told Rebecca he was taking the vampire name Mathau, and swore allegiance to a vampiress called Akasha.
"I came home and there was a note saying 'Sorry, I had to go,'" Roberts said. "I never thought this would take over his life."
She says if he should return, she has her response ready: "Fangs, but no fangs."
