Rod Blagojevich is proposing offering private companies the opportunity to buy the naming rights for state properties. While the money-raising plan has received mixed reviews, Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan insists the Illinois Statehouse and Lincoln sites remain off-limits to company logos. Advertisement The Chicago Sun-Times said Madigan has introduced legislation restricting numerous government-owned properties from being targeted under the naming rights program. In a statement, Madigan said: "I know no Illinoisan would want commercial signage slapped on the Statehouse or any diminishment of any Lincoln sites. But at the same time, there might be a worthwhile plan to come forward in this difficult budget time. We continue to look for creative ways to provide services." Blagojevich, however, said he never intended to sell naming rights to such historic places but he's pleased to learn Madigan supports the plan. Madigan told the Sun-Times he intends to press for passage of his bill during Illinois' fall legislative session.
