OMAHA, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- Grasshoppers are a common sight in Nebraska, but now experts say their numbers are growing to levels not seen since the Dust Bowl days of the 1930s.

Not only are there more of them, but an urban entomologist, Dennis Ferraro, told the Omaha World Herald the bugs are hungry.

Ferraro says the grasshoppers have developed a big appetite for nylon screens. Said Ferraro, "The grasshoppers are devouring them like there's no tomorrow."

Ferraro said they might be drawn to the screens by the soft, wavy material.
