TORONTO, Aug. 26 (UPI) -- If the world needed a record for the largest number of Hokey Pokey dancers, it has it Tuesday, a Toronto newspaper reported.
As part of the 125th Canadian National Exhibition, Sesame Street's Elmo tickled and cajoled 4,779 people to a Hokey Pokey record performance Monday.
The weather cooperated as the crowd concentrated on putting their right feet in, right feet out and shaking at all about, the Toronto Star said.
Elmo fans young and old were happily surprised to learn the character wasn't a local actor but really Kevin Clash, who portrays Elmo on the television show.
So intent were the Sesame Street producers on achieving the Guinness Book of World Records listing of the event, Elmo put everyone through their hokeys and pokeys three times with cameras rolling and professional crowd-counters milling.
No one seemed to mind there was no existing record to beat.
