X-RATED CELL PHONES

Pornography is often considered the handmaiden of new technology, so some are predicting adult entertainment appearing on cell phones.

"Erotica lowers risk because you know it is going to sell," David Jarvis, wireless manager at the Barcelona-based Private Media Group, tells the British Broadcasting Corp.

Jarvis says he has no doubt porn and new video phones will go hand in hand because phones have become such personal devices.

"We have short clips where you direct the outcome; where the girl is looking at you and talking to you, something TV and print cannot do," he says.

HARRY POTTER MERCHANDISING

When "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," goes on sale Friday, fans can buy officially licensed paraphernalia.

On sale will be a Harry Potter robe with built-in "fiber optic lights" for about $60 or a magic wand with flashing lights and sound effects for about $13, The New York Times reports.

J. K. Rowling, author of the series, often has said she wanted to protect her stories from becoming encrusted with merchandise, but she might have finally lost.

Her fifth novel is the first to arrive since Warner Brothers began making Harry Potter movies and selling the licensing rights. Out of deference to Rowling, the licensing agreements try to block toy or candy companies from tying their products directly to the books.

WOMAN RUNS OVER HUSBAND

A New York City woman toasted her silver wedding anniversary but before the night was out, she ran her husband over.

Joanne Riva started the night dining out with her husband, Frank. Police said the couple had argued after returning from dinner and her attorney tells the New York Daily News she ran out of their Long Island home and got into the car after her husband attacked her.

Frank Riva, 49, was found dead in the street in front of the home, according to police. Joanne Riva is charged with drunken driving and leaving the scene of a fatal accident.

Police are investigating whether Riva deliberately ran over her husband or whether it was an accident.

PHOENIX BISHOP ARRESTED

Phoenix police arrested Bishop Thomas O'Brien in the fatal hit-and-run of a pedestrian.

The bishop is accused of fleeing the scene after hitting and killing a 43-year-old pedestrian as the man was jaywalking across a street, authorities said.

Police said the bishop faces one count of leaving the scene of a fatal accident, a felony.

Before authorities could book him, O'Brien experienced high blood pressure and had to be transported from Madison Street Jail to St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center.

Sgt. Lauri Williams, police spokeswoman, tells the Arizona Republic two cars struck the pedestrian, the first identified by witnesses as a four-door, tan Buick Park Avenue later traced to O'Brien.
