Two members of Delta Omega Chi were charged Friday with misdemeanor grand theft and malicious mischief for catching, then feeding to their pledges, a campus mascot koi known as Midas. Advertisement Midas was believed to be 8 years old, weighing roughly 20 lbs. and worth $800, the newspaper said. About 15 koi, which can live for more than 50 years, reside in the UC Santa Cruz reflecting pool. Police said the two seniors said they pulled the prank to "try to impress the TV show." The Delta Omega Chi's are the subject of MTV's next installment of its reality show, "Fraternity Life." The frat MTV has refused to comment on the fish incident, but did say it would not be a storyline when the show airs in September.
